DESCRIPTION:CalVTP in Practice: Lessons learned from oak forest and meadow restoration with the Butano State Park Forest Health Project Field Training\nField Workshop Date: \nWednesday\, December 4\nTime: 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  \nLocation: Butano State Park\, Pescadero\, CA \nThis field training is an opportunity for participants to increase their understanding of conducting restoration in an oak woodland/meadow ecosystem in the coastal zone under the CalVTP. \nHudson Northrop\, Environmental Scientist at California State Parks\, Santa Cruz District\, will discuss California State Parks’ mission\, the site history of Butano State Park\, and the value of coordinating with multiple partners on the project. David Cowman\, District Forester for the San Mateo Resource Conservation District\, will provide the context for the concept and compliance of the Butano State Park Forest Health Project as a whole\, and specifically treatments focused on oak woodland and meadow restoration and enhancement. Shelby Kranich\, ARC Forestry Registered Professional Forester\, will dive into the project treatment specifications and design and detail how all of this information is recorded and tracked for the whole project team. Sarah A. Collamer\, Vegetation Management Forester at CAL FIRE CZU\, will explain how CAL FIRE CZU has grown their prescribed fire program and is looking to the future to use fire to address heavy fuel loading and ecosystem health. Brett Agler\, Vegetation Management Forester at CAL FIRE CZU\, will explore the critical role of prescribed burning in managing Santa Cruz County’s diverse landscapes. Jonathan Perrin\, Area Land Manager at San Francisco Public Utilities Commission\, Natural Resources and Lands Management Division\, will discuss the comprehensive process of implementing prescribed fire from both agency and landowner viewpoints.
